UCO alumnus and manager of The Flaming Lips Scott Booker is the Executive Director for the new Academy of Contemporary Music at UCO, the only American affiliate of the original academy outside of London. Class start fall 2009!
UCO’s Volunteer Service Learning Center encourages community service as an integral part of our students’ education. Projects like the ‘Style Your Sole’ event with TOMS shoes instill a love of service in UCO students.
The UCO Jazz Lab proenhance and weight loss is voted the best place in the Oklahoma City Metro Area for live jazz music by various surveys, and is home to the renowned Jazz Studies program.
In the wake of the shooting tragedies at Virginia Tech, UCO hosted the first National Campus Security Summit in 2007, and has held two summits since, fostering communication among campus administrators and law enforcement.
UCO develops its own bio-diesel fuel for campus vehicles from used cooking oil from campus dining facilities. The process won the Innovator of the Year award from the Journal Record business paper.
UCO fraternity and sorority chapters are among the best in the country, with four chapters winning top awards from the national and international headquarters in 2008.
UCO partners with Rose State College to offer degrees in General Business, General Studies and Nursing through classes at their Midwest City campus. Plus, administrators in the Mid-Del School District can earn their Masters of Education from UCO at Rose State.
UCO music theatre student and Lawton native Lauren Nelson was crowned Miss America 2007, representing the nation and the state of Oklahoma in its Centennial year.

Dr. Wei Chen, a biomedical engineering professor at UCO, was named the 2008 U.S. Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
